Pousada da Horta - Converted 16th-century fortress Faial, one of the most beautiful of the Azores islands, is known for its sunny climate, and was called Ilha Azul (‘Blue Island’) by the poet Raul Brandão on account of the swathes of hydrangeas that bloom there in the summer.
This comfortable Pousada, with its elegantly furnished rooms and its swimming pool, overlooks Horta, the island’s main town. Formerly an inn, the Pousada is located within the 16th-century fortress of Santa Cruz, and there are magnificent views across the marina to the amazing Pico Island, with its spectacular volcano, Ponta de Pico, the highest peak on Portuguese territory.
Pousada Forte da Horta is beautifully situated within a 16th-century fort on Faial Island, offering breathtaking views over Horta Bay and the nearby island of Pico, with its iconic volcanic peak rising in the distance. Just steps from the charming town center, guests can explore local cafés, restaurants, and the bustling marina, which is famous among transatlantic sailors.
A short walk away lies Porto Pim Beach, a peaceful cove ideal for swimming, relaxing, and watching stunning sunsets. The surrounding landscape is lush and volcanic, with scenic viewpoints like Monte da Guia and the Espalamaca Battery providing panoramic views over the Atlantic and surrounding islands. Nature lovers will find plenty of outdoor adventures, from whale and dolphin watching to hiking, cycling, and boat tours. By Plane: To get to Faial Island there are regular flights from Lisbon. - There are also daily flights from S. Miguel and Terceira Island.
By Taxi: To get to the Pousada, clients can get a taxi or rent a car at the airport. - It takes about 15 minutes to get to the Pousada, situated in the centre of Horta City along the marina of Horta.
