The Hotel

16th century fortress

This Pousada is located within the 16th century Sao Sebastião fortress, originally built to defend the island of Terceira from enemy attacks on shipping. It offers impressive views of the bay from its clifftop position in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Angra do Heroísmo.

Angra’s Pousada has a contemporary and vibrant interior while managing to preserve its historic character and complement the military architecture of the fortress. The majority of the rooms have sea views and several have balconies; all rooms are equipped with LCD televisions and air conditioning. Guests can enjoy traditional Portuguese and regional Azorean cuisine in the Pousada’s restaurant. Local Area

Angra do Heroísmo achieved World Heritage Status in 1983. The city was built during the age of maritime explorations as a port for expeditions heading or returning from Africa, the Indies and Americas, playing a central role in the exchanging of cultures and civilisations which took place during this period. The city is built in the charming Portuguese colonial architectural style, with colourful buildings and cobbled streets.

The Cathedral de Sé is a beautiful 16th- century church situated in the centre of the town, it is a unique architectural treasure. The island boasts beautiful scenery and is the perfect place to go walking or horse riding. Monte Brasil, an extinct volcano which offers spectacular views, is a must-see for any visitors. For those interested in fishing or marine life, there are a number of boat tours which include fishing and dolphin and whale watching.

Cuisine

The restaurant leans into regional flavours of the Azores, with a strong maritime influence and use of pasture‑raised meat. Seafood plays a big role - dishes include locally sourced fish (for example breaded hake served with a passion fruit sauce) and fresh Atlantic fish varieties. On the meat side, they offer rump steak from cows that graze freely, and traditional stews like alcatra. The breakfast buffet offers local cheeses, pastries and regional Azorean touches.

How to get there

By Car (from the airport): - When you leave the airport take the VVN road, (Via Vitorino Nemésio), following directions to Angra do Heroísmo. - At the end of this road, head in the direction of Porto das Pipas, a small port by the sea. - At the end of the road on your left-hand side, you will find the Pousada.
