The colourful and monumental Parador de Ibiza is set to open in March 2026 after a very long conversion and renovation project, forming a beautiful place to stay within an iconic fortress.

During the adaptation of the original castle, many archaeological finds have been retained and are on display for visitors to enjoy, and the Parador has made much of this, so that people can get an excellent feel for the original construction of the buildings, and that this heritage is not lost.

Some of the original construction dates back to the 1100s and 1200s, although the castle as it stands today mainly dates back to the 16th century when King Felipe II commissioned the construction of the main castle that you can now see, with additional works carried out over the following centuries. Ibiza was founded by the Phoenicians, subsumed into the Moorish control of Spain (Al Andaluz), and later came under the jurisdiction of several dominant (Christian) regions, providing the city with a diverse range of architectural design, predominantly of whitewashed houses and cobbled streets in the old quarter.

The Parador de Ibiza (and the castle which it occupies) stands in a majestic position in the upper town (the ‘’Dalt Vila’’ district was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999). Located next to the Cathedral, it looks down onto the old city, marina, port and the coast below. From here you can enjoy the most stunning views, and the walk down into the Old Town through the very attractive old streets is a wonderful experience. The city is large enough to explore over several days, and the mild winter climate, combined with the hot but not excessive summer temperatures, makes this a destination that can appeal to most people all year round. Ibiza famous for its sailing and regattas, and has a stunning coastline with endless beaches.

The Parador de Ibiza will have fewer than 70 bedrooms with all the usual comforts that you would expect from a Parador.
