This route begins in the coastal town of Gijón: historic, commercial, and industrial, where the sea, the gentle mountains and the city come together to create one of the most attractive metropolitan areas in northern Spain. San Lorenzo Beach, the esplanade, the marina, the Semana Negra (Black Week) festival, an active social scene and festive atmosphere all invite visitors to discover the city. Gijón has a network of museums and a variety of cultural events, including an international film festival and Latin American Book Show. Some of the town’s museums are noteworthy for their uniqueness, among them the Railroad Museum (Museo del Ferrocarril), the International Bagpipe Museum, the birthplace of Jovellanos, the Nicanor Piñole Museum, and the Revillagigedo Palace, among others.
This historic Parador is nestled on the banks of the River de Sella and enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding verdant valley. In the village of Cangas de Onís we suggest visiting the Old Roman Bridge, the Chapel of Santa Cruz and the Cortés Palace. Close to the Natural Park of the Picos de Europa, you should visit Casa Dago (The visitor’s reception bureau of the Natural Park). The Royal Site of Covadonga is one more spot of special interest in this area, together with the Covadonga Lakes (Enol and La Ercina) and the Cares River Route.
At the reception desk of the Parador de Cangas, they can advise several different ways of moving on to Fuente Dé, so that you may discover the beauty of the mountain range and the monumentality of the Picos de Europa. This majestic mountain range is located north of the Cordillera Cantábrica, and it is one of the most spectacular and beautiful mountain ranges of the whole Peninsula. Within the Picos de Europa, you may enjoy the National Park of the same name. The Parador is an excellent and privileged place to stay if you want to get to know this spectacular natural landscape. Thanks to the cable car of Fuente Dé, located close to the Parador, you can ascend in a very comfortable way to the heart of the central massif (also called “Urrieles”) or to the “Puertos de Áliva” mountain pass. The staff of the Parador can suggest a number of routes to enjoy these spectacular surroundings and give you the necessary recommendations.
This Parador enjoys a peaceful location, 2km from the town of Cervera de Pisuerga. Built in the style of a traditional mountain lodge, many bedrooms enjoy views over the surrounding natural landscapes and neighbouring reservoir. Nearby points of interest include a natural rock hermitage (Eremitorio rupestre de San Vicente), the town of Aguilar de Campoo and its castle and Santa Maria monastery and, of course, the Montaña Palentina natural park.
