19th century Palace
Situated in the residential district of Alto de Santo Amaro in an exclusive area of Lisbon, the Pestana Palace Hotel is set within the former Valle Flôr Palace, dating from the end of the 19th century. Restored to its former glory this magnificent palace is now classified as a National Monument and is considered one of the principal palaces in Lisbon.
It was built in 1904 for the Marquis of Valle Flor and his three daughters. There are many portraits of the children in the palace. The palace has many fine examples of the works of some the greatest artists of the period such as ceiling paintings and portraits by Carlos Reis, one of the well known Portuguese artists of the 19th Century.
The palace also houses a magnificent, consecrated chapel which has seating for 40 persons. The conversion to luxury accommodation, and the addition of two contemporary accommodation wings, resulted in the Pestana Palace Hotel being awarded the international ‘MIPIM’ prize in 2002. The lounges are profusely decorated with French-inspired details. The private quarters of the Marquises have been turned into beautiful and spacious suites. Works of art decorate the walls, complemented by elegant antique furniture and luxurious sofas.
The palace overlooks a private park lush with many subtropical plants and trees that include the original lake and a superb pavilion with a series of paths that is the place for encounters of lovers and intrigue.
It is situated in the historical Alto de Santo Amaro quarter of the city and has magnificent views over the River Tagus and near some of the most important monuments of the city, such as Centro Cultural de Belém, Mosteiro dos Jerónimos and Centro de Congressos (Congress Centre).
The palace also has the Allegro bar and the Valle-Flôr restaurant, which specializes in Portuguese cuisine and is renowned as one of the leading gastronomic establishments in Lisbon.
The hotel has a total of 193 bedrooms; 176 rooms, 13 suites and 4 royal suites. The view to the Tagus river or to the vast gardens of the palace can be enjoyed from all royal suites.
The hotel offers a wide range of layouts with the most up-to-date audio-visual equipment, capable of accommodating conferences and events for up to 630 people (Belem room). Given the glamorous setting and prestigious nature of the palace building, this is an ideal venue for product launches, presentations, fashion shows, private events. Event facilities extend from the XIX century palace into its former coach house and a sympathetically designed extension in the grounds.
